Where to Live in Columbus Based on Your Budget

May 29, 2026

Columbus offers genuine neighborhood quality at every price tier — the metro’s range and diversity mean your budget determines your neighborhood, but rarely your quality of life. Here’s the budget-by-budget guide.

Under $250,000

Westerville (starter areas) — Select Westerville neighborhoods offer homes in the $200,000 to $250,000 range with access to the city’s walkable Uptown district and solid schools. The entry-level properties are typically older ranch homes or townhomes.

Hilliard (older sections) — Hilliard’s more established subdivisions provide family-friendly suburban living at Columbus’s more accessible prices. The $200,000 to $250,000 range buys a ranch or split-level with Hilliard City Schools access.

Franklinton — Columbus’s most dynamic emerging neighborhood offers the lowest entry points close to downtown. Homes in the $150,000 to $240,000 range sit in a neighborhood undergoing visible transformation, with Land-Grant Brewing, the 400 West Rich art studios, and growing investment changing the area’s trajectory.

$250,000 to $400,000

Clintonville — A north-side neighborhood with an independent, community-minded character. Homes range from $260,000 to $400,000 for bungalows, Capes, and Colonials on tree-lined streets. The Whetstone Park of Roses and the neighborhood’s walkable commercial nodes (Clintonville Town Center) add value.

Westerville (established) — The heart of Westerville’s residential market. The $300,000 to $400,000 range delivers well-maintained family homes with Westerville City Schools and proximity to Uptown’s shops and restaurants.

Grandview Heights — One of Columbus’s most walkable neighborhoods. The $300,000 to $400,000 range is the entry point for Grandview’s compact homes — small lots but exceptional walkability and community character.

$400,000 to $600,000

Upper Arlington — Columbus’s quintessential established suburb. The $400,000 to $600,000 range is UA’s core market — mid-century homes under mature tree canopy with excellent schools, pools, and community programming. This is where the “best of Central Ohio suburban living” conversation starts.

Worthington — Historic village character with the amenities of a well-run suburb. The $400,000 to $600,000 range buys quality homes near the historic district with access to Worthington’s schools, pools, and community events.

German Village — One of the largest privately funded historic restorations in the country. Brick homes on brick streets in the $400,000 to $600,000 range provide walkable urban living with historic character that can’t be replicated.

$600,000 to $900,000

Dublin (established areas) — Dublin’s historic district and Riverside Drive neighborhoods offer the combination of Scioto River views, excellent schools, and walkable village amenities. The $600,000 to $900,000 range accesses Dublin’s premium neighborhoods.

Bexley — The tight-knit community surrounded by Columbus provides tree-lined streets, excellent schools, and village walkability. The $600,000 to $900,000 range buys the most desirable Bexley locations.

Short North / Victorian Village (premium) — The top end of Columbus’s urban-living market. Renovated Victorian homes and new construction in the $600,000 to $900,000 range provide walkable access to the city’s best dining, arts, and nightlife corridor.

Over $900,000

New Albany — The planned community that consistently ranks among Ohio’s best neighborhoods. Custom homes from $900,000 to over $2 million in a community designed for beauty, education, and quiet living.

Upper Arlington (premium) — The $900,000+ market in UA accesses the neighborhood’s most desirable streets and largest lots.
